Thanks both of you. Haven't played 'Breed' for ages, can't promise anything but I might give it a go for the hell of it!

I play Copperhead Road to close just about every gig that I do as a mark of respect, it was this song that gave me my start playin' the gigs I do. At present Steve's Hammer is in there too. Johnny Come Lately an' I Ain't Ever Satisfied turn up from time to time, as do Billy Austin, Mercenary Song, Tom Aymes' Prayer an' CCKMP. I've played Over Yonder an' Goodbye round campfires an' various others at other times.

I like good songwriters an' for me Steve is up there at the top of the tree along with Tom Waits.

    Damn pleased with my lot.

I can play Someday, and Elijah's Church, and Sparkle and Shine, and Come Home to Me. I would love it if anyone could help me with Mercenary Song. I cannot figure it out to save my life. I know I need to capo the second fret, but I still can't get it to sound right. Private Message me if you want to help. I would greatly appreciate it!

Been playing Steve's songs on my guitar for nearly 20 years now (almost non stop!!  You would have thought i could do it by now!) but I go through phases of which one I play more often.  My favourites to play are:

If You Fall (my attempt of that is on YouTube)
    Telephone Road
    Goodbye
    Ben McCulloch
    Someday
    The Other Kind
    CCKMP

Last night I played My Old Friend the Blues.  Haven't tried it in a while. Thats the great thing about Steve's music, you can just pick your guitar up and there's always something to play depending on your mood....

Now I study in Prague so I can't be there.

BTW this is the Rich (Unrepentant) on YouTube . :-)

Re: Who are the musicians and what Steve songs do you play?

Bluegrass listed some mighty fine tunes and I was glad to see that he listed “Home to Houston” as one that is being learned. For some reason when I speak with some Steve’s fans, songs from “The Revolution Starts Now” is not usually mentioned. These songs touched my soul in the same ways that the Vietnam War protest songs did in the 60’s. They both inspired me and motivated me not to give up on peace in my lifetime. To have that good message of hope sandwiched in between some really good music was truly uplifting. Does anyone love these songs as much as I do?

Revolution, I Though ou Should Know, The Seeker and Comin Around are my top favourites too. But there are also songs (not only the political stuff) that are bit ouf of my taste.

Home to Houston is quite fine. I heard it's something like tribute to Johnny Cash, or at least Johnny Cash-like song.

Re: Who are the musicians and what Steve songs do you play?

I just got the new Copperhead Road double DV set...it's incredible!!!  of course, his voice is a little ragged, but not anything like "Die like an Aviator" and you all know how much i loved that...ha!!  the newly released part of the set is from shows in '88/'89 and is wonderful...i really love his cover of Springsteen's "Nebraska," that is one beautiful song....and, of yeah, i am a real latecomer with this, i know...i never liked Bruce S. much, but have found a new respect for his work...i'd gotten out oldest son the Greatest Hits CD for Christmas and found it while cleaning up his room, he'd downloaded it to his computer, etc., and left the disk behind..i've been listening to that a lot now....i know, i know, i should have been listening all along...but...well, there it is.....

Re: Who are the musicians and what Steve songs do you play?

Hey, I never took to Bruce Sprigsteen himself, although I know a plenty of his really great songs (covers).

I think the bonus on that Copperhead Road Deluxe is practicaly the bootleg from Rich, isn't it? Probably except for the Nebraska..

Really deluxe it would be with Eddy Shaver on guitar, but he didn't like some songs or what and beside started touring and recording with his father.

Re: Who are the musicians and what Steve songs do you play?

What chords are you playing on Mercenary Song? I don't have my guitar with me and I know too many damn songs to keep them all straight if I can't sing and play it on the spot. But capo on the 2nd fret is a good place to start for an awful lot of Steve's tunes.

I'm sure you could also go to YouTube and see if they have any video of him playing it there.
