Re: Who are the musicians and what Steve songs do you play?
I don't play this one much often. Not exactly my favourite. But the video of young Steve with Guy Clark and Rodney Crowell (if I remember it well) is cool. I have chords from Countrytabs. There's no capo, just G D G G D G for verse and C G D G C G D G for chorus. And I think it works. But I have no guitar with me here either.

Hi all I have just pulled that one out of the closet again and it is capo on the 2nd fret despite what country tabs says! Explaining how to pick it though is tough as its all around the G shape and getting the rhythm of the picking right for the main riff. It basicaly stays betwen G and D (picking the tune with forefinger and middle finger) and then goes to C, G D etc for the chorus (I'm takling chord shapes as using the capo) If I get time later in the week, i will try and video what i know slowed down. Cheers Rich

Right you are Unrepentant. My boys and I just played it Tuesday so it's still fresh in my mind. It's definitely capoed, and as long as you stick with G, D and C you'll figure it out. You have to watch out for Internet tab - it's wrong as often as it's right. We're learning I Still Carry You Around next week.

Capo's are cheap anyway aren't they?! Just go on eBay and look for a 'trigger capo'. That way you can do Steve's trick of using the capo on the 2nd fret but keeping the low E string un-capo'd (thats not a word!) so playing in the D shape with the open E sounds awesome. I believe in Satellite Radio, he uses 2 Capo's!

Re: Who are the musicians and what Steve songs do you play?
A few years back I started playing guitar...I'm too old to play in a band, and I've done it for 15 years as a drummer...Anyhow...I think the first tune of Steve's I learned was 'My Old Friend The Blues'..I sit around everyday and play...lately it's been 'hardcore troubador'. 'Goodbye' is a great one to play on the porch watching traffic go by. Over the last few years I've touched on a bunch of 'em i guess. I love 'Trancendental Blues'...His stuff is fairly simple I suppose, but I've long since resigned to the fact that I like great songs that hit me one way or another..and just about everything he's ever written fits that bill. Steve writes about life, and that's what i like to hear...I got up yesterday and played 'City of Immigrants', don't know why, it was just on my brain...Seems like I always wake up with some song in my head, and a lot of mornings i'm singing one of Steve's...'I can Wait' is a favorite of mine to play...I've printed off a ton of chords, I just flip thru 'em and pick one, and strum away.

Re: Who are the musicians and what Steve songs do you play?
I regularly (almost every day) play "Christmas in Washington," "My Old Friend the Blues," and "Over Yonder." Have been playing "Goodbye" a lot lately, trying to get it down somewhat, have played "Guitartown" and "Someday" with friends, who I get to jam with maybe once a year on a fishing trip. "Rich Man's War" is on the to-do list, maybe "Ellis Unit One." I have been recently inspired by SE versions on Youtube of "Ft. Worth Blues" - with tears from Nancy Griffith streaming down, wow, (was that the Townes Van Zandt tribute?) and a cover of a Gram Parsons song "Sin City" - but Ft. Worth Blues is so personal I don't know about that. Love his version, though, what a song. Seems like I keep finding great SE material, though Youtube is terrible - highly addictive.

I do Ft. Worth Blues and Goodbye. I do Tecumseh Valley although that's not Steve's. I do love his version of it. I think my version is a mix of Steve and Townes', probably closer to Steve's. I have plans to do The Devil's Right Hand and Tom Ames Prayer and definitely more after that. I have Goodbye recorded here: http://www.vsplanet.com/mp3s/d/dannytheirishswedeGoodbye.mp3
