    Re: A bit of poetry

I agree too.  I mean, I have openly said I really don't like the DJ but Kyle is right, it doesn't take away the actual song writing ability. OK, I have also openly said that WSS is my least favourite album of Steve's but my point here is that I went to see him in London, DJ and all, and I loved the gig....because it was Steve Earle! Not many artists can bring a tear to my eye when I see them but he manages it every time.  My opinion of the DJ while seeing him live didn't alter one little bit but the last thing on my mind was to leave early!

I'm really hoping we see a new and improved Dukes line up soon though.  Its been too long!

In your opinion, who might be considered to be a Mighty Duke these days? After all, I've never seen a Duke in concert, and have only heard stories and rumors about "sissy guitar player" crises prior to many a tour.... the Dukes line up seems to have changed more times than Steve got married.

P.S.  I just got the new Copperhead Road cd - now I understand what all the "Custer" fuss is all about. Awesome! I highly recommend buying this cd for the fantastic live stuff. And the Custer.

    Re: A bit of poetry

Custer is a must and if only Steve knew something, I know he would get his ass back. He hunted him down before to get him back in 1996 so they say everything comes in three's!  I know why they parted company in 1997 but trust me, that is not a problem now and I'd love Steve to know that.

Him and Kelly Looney together created the tightest band I've ever heard.

    Re: A bit of poetry

Custer, Kelley Looney, David Steele (or Eddy Shaver, if he weren't dead - Steve wanted him to play on Copperhead Road, and he was the best guitarist ever!) and some keyboard player different from Mark Stuart could be enough ;-)

I wish i could but its kind of invading Custer's privacy so its not fair on him but all i can say to Steve if he reads this, your reasons for ditching Custer no longer exist! Neither did anything wrong, it was just a conflict of interests.

Viky!  That was a funny one!  At first I was thinking that was you on guitar and I said to myself, "Shit!  Viky sounds almost exactly like Steve on that!  Good for him!"  I'll give you this, that is the first time that I LAUGHED whilst listening to that song, instead of crying!  So you've done GOOD!  Of all songs to "do" with a DJ.... haha!  Of course, that was your point, eh?!  :)

    WinkWink

I was inspired by Tennessee Blues. I loved it when I first heard it acoustically, an extremely strong song. But the CD version with the DJ completely ruined all the emotions in the song to me. So I thought of what would happen to other emotional songs if I added the beats in the same way. Stick out tongue And you've just proved that the mechanism works perfectly Big SmileBig Smile

Re: A BRAND NEW SONG!!! ;-)

The reason that Steve's music is so different from all the other hum drum stuff that's about is that his songs can be played by just and acoustic guitar, with a blue grass band or to quote the man himself 'an extremely loud adult rock band'. I saw him at Basingstoke, he was brilliant the first time I've seen him, and I think it works with the DJ.

A  couple of friends who also went to the gig didn't get it, but then they don't really like his music all that much. I think WSS is a great record, Tennessee Blues is awesome especially the studio version of just him and his guitar and I'd love to see the show again.

It did seem to affect his timing a bit but who cares, electronic drums are difficult to play and very unforgiving, but he got it together on Jools Holland.

The other reason I love his music is that it's inspired me to pick up the guitar again, the songs aren't full of loads of difficult chords.

I would like to see him with The Dukes though, so hopefully a new album is in the offing.
