Haven't listened to it yet myself. Is it as good as (or perhaps even better than) Ghost Reveries

Better than Ghost Reveries, IMHO. Not anywhere near Blackwater Park, but that is a tough standard to best.

I'll be interested to hear what you think.

BTW, one of the young women I work with at my new job is into Black Flag and other assorted subversive music. I'm going to turn her on to SE and his subversive music Devil

    Excellent idea!

    Here are a few tips:

    Minor Threat

    Public Enemy

    The Nightwatchman

    The Refused

    The (International) Noise Conspiracy

...but you knew about all of them already.

    Magnus,

     Thanks for the suggestions.

BTW, have you ever seen The Decline of Western Civilisation (part I). It was about punk bands in Los Angeles at the end of the 70s. I have the soundtrack. It isn't out on DVD AFAIK, and I wish they would release it.

No, haven't seen that one. I have seen Part II though, the one where all the stupid hair-metal bands are portrayed... *bleargh*

Come to think of it, I haven't even seen the recent American Hardcore movie, oh boy... one more thing to add to my never ending "to do" list.

But first and foremost, I am busy being The Lord Of Funk (at least this week).

Re: So Guys (and Girls)...What Are We Listening To?

Rodney Crowell's "Fate's Right Hand" and "The Outsider", Bob Dylan's first three albums, a Townes Van Zandt compilation I bought, John Fogerty's "Revival", Emmylou's "Cowgirl's Prayer", Gram Parsons' stuff along with Flying Burrito Bros. stuff, anything by Steve, various obscure stuff I burned, but more recently, nothing. I've been playing and singing instead of listening.

Re: So Guys (and Girls)...What Are We Listening To?

I love The Flying Burritos but it's just a pity that there's so little of it, The Gilded Palace of Sin is a record that i always return to, there is nothing else like it and it launched a whole new sound. Steve Earle must've liked them because he likes to cover their songs.

Bob Dylans bootlegs are always worth a trawl through, I find something different every time I listen to them.

Anyone out there like Rory Gallagher?

I just got the new extended Copperhead Road set, the live disk is excellent, The cover of "Brown and Root" is my personal favorite.

Re: So Guys (and Girls)...What Are We Listening To?

Kind of obsessed with the soundtrack from "Into the Wild.(Eddie Vetter)," Kristofferson's latest (New West).

"Transcendental Blues" still my favorite Steve Earle cd, am a huge fan.

He has been "doing it" almost alone, socio-political blues, rockabilly, folk - now some other folks are coming around, awhole new generation of alt-country kids, very gratifying to see.  We are almost mainstream these days.
