Re: Hi all...sorry I'm late!
I've never enjoyed Monty Python, never found it funny so I don't really want to watch the films. Odd, as I love Fawlty Towers... Whatever happened to decent British comedies?

Re: Hi all...sorry I'm late!
I know :)) and besides, Flying Circus i better than the movies :D Fawlty Towers is absolutely great! Do you find sitcoms co-written by your favourite Ben Elton decent? Like The Young Ones? :D :D Black Adder isn't much decent either :D And Douglas Adams is totally crazy too. He's even appeared in and co-written the later series of MPFC :-P
Otherwise agree concening the newer series. I never took to The Office or Spaced.

Re: Hi all...sorry I'm late!
Anything that has Douglas Adam's name on it is sheer genius. He can never be replaced. I prefer subtle humour to a barrage of jokes every 5 seconds and so many comedies fall into this trap. I used to love a US show back in the 80's called Sledge Hammer as it wasn't a pointless gag every second. It was subtle humour which cracks me up! Viky, I can't say that I laugh out loud much to the comedies on TV Ben Elton co wrote. I watched The Young Ones many times as it was so different for its time but again, not always funny. Black Adder, I actually prefered the last 4th series of all. The 1st 2 were awful. One person that makes me laugh (without even having to actually say a joke) is the great Billy Connolly.

Re: Hi all...sorry I'm late!
I woudn't overrate Douglas Adams so much. Have you read "Long Dark Tea Time of the Soul" or "Mostly Harmless"? There are still the funny little remarks which are always amusing but in general, the books are about nothing, the plot is complete non-sense. Otherwise he is the funniest novelist ever of course.. My most favourite sitcoms/TV series use to be either very clever (Yes Minister) or completely crazy and alternative (The Young Ones) or both of it (Monty Python's Flying Circus) Nothing just plain and simple. BTW do you know Bill Bailey? I've recently discovered his musical sketches.. Never heard of the Billy Connoly. BTW which Ben Elton's books have you read and which would you recommend? - I've read High Society, Dead Famous and Chart Throb so far. (BTW his sitcom "Filthy, Rich and Catflap" with the Young Ones actors is absolutely terribly bad, I managed to watch 2 and half episodes - without even a smile. And The Thin Blue Line is too average to me, so I'm no such a big fan of his TV writing :-) )

I'm usually not much into stand-up commedians. Probably partially as it has no tradition in our country, unlike Britain. Some Bill Bailey Foreign Ambulance Sirens Hatts off to Zebras (A song, Bryan Adams-like, he says)

I'm surprised Viky, Billy Connoly is almost certainly the funniest stand-up comedian that Britain (he's Scottish) has ever produced. He's hilariously funny and a very interesting man in his own right. Have a look on Youtube, I'm sure there are plenty of clips on there. Also: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billy_Connoly

I can rate him so highly as in my opinion, Douglas Adams was the best. I was so sad when he died at such a young age. I have read both books you mention and I love Mostly Harmless. If you hear it in its radio format (the Quintissential Phase) its genious. The ending with Agrajag, nobody else can think up that stuff. I also enjoyed his Dirk Gently books too, but not as much as Hittchikers. Viky, listen to the complete radio series and then you might find Mostly Harmelss in that format alot better. Yes, check out Billy Connolly as he is hilarious. He is not you usual stand up that tells pointless jokes. He tell stories about him, or just general things that happen in the world and everything he says is unique to his humour. Classic. The two Ben Elton books I prefered were Dead Famous and Past Mortem. However, I never liked him as a stand up. Cheers Rich
