Of coarse all the albums are great but I'm going with the Bluegrass/Dance of The Mountain. Everyone loves a party with good dance music.

Man, that was so hard! Eventually chose 'Guitar Town'. To be honest I love pretty much everything Steve has ever recorded, but what eventually swung it for me was the fact that that album has helped me through some seriously horrible times over the years. Also, just hearing the opening acoustic stumming pattern still makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck!

I'd probably have to pick "The Hard Way." Some tracks are a lot stronger than others, but overall I felt like he poured everything he had into that album and it really shows. Top 5: - The Hard Way
- I Feel Alright
- Copperhead Road
- Guitar Town
- El Corazon/Train A Comin'

Yeah sonicshake, I feel you on Guitar Town. For me it was the first, and it will probably always be the greatest because of the memories and feelings in invokes. Second fave has to be Train A Comin'. I think my little combo plays damned near every song on the one!

Ditto mate. 'Train a Comin' is my second favourite too. Very closely followed by 'Copperhead Road'. Then it's gotta be 'I Feel Alright'. Hahaha. I feel too bad if I leave my favourite albums off. You've really opened the floodgates now man!

Wow, I can't believe Copperhead Road is not higher on the poll! Great album from beginning to end. I got into Steve Earle after hearing "Someday" when Guitar Town came out in the 80's...I got everyone around me into Steve Earle, then we saw Copperhead tour in '89, was awesome! I love his roots-rock stuff, not a fan of his political albums. Well into the 90's when I first saw/heard him I was like woaaah what happened?? Some really good quality songs, love his guitar playing too, but I don't like to combine my music with politics. Just a personal preference. Anyway, glad to see he's still Rockin'.

Cast my vote for Transcendental Blues, the first one (other than Essential SE, cheating) I listened to a lot. Recently discovered a lot of songs from El Corazon, read online he wrote some of it in Ireland, so that is my next purchase, Revolution a close second.
