Hard to pin it down to five, so here's  ten.

Exile on Main Street - Rolling Stones

Ghost of Tom Joad - Bruce Springsteen

    Rain Dogs - Tom Waits

Blues according to - Lightnin Hopkins

    Blues - Jimi Hendrix

Shine eyed Mr. Zen - Kelly Joe Phelps

    The Mountain - Steve Earle

    Amorica - The Black Crowes

Time out of mind - Bob Dylan

Decades - Neil Young (Difficult to pick one album, but this one has most of the good stuff)

On another day it could be a very different ten.

Glad to see that Mr. Phelps got a mention here. He is a sadly overlooked songwriter and a brilliant guitarist.

    Check him out: http://www.kellyjoephelps.net/

    And a video

    Good call Kevin!

I saw him live a couple of years ago, just a man and his guitar,  one of the best  gigs I've been to.

Adrian Belew is one of my faves as well. I've always thought that he desperately wants to be a huge pop star (a la the Beatles) but is so quirky and weird that his music turns a lot of people off; the average listener just doesn't get him. Do you like any of his stuff with The Bears? I do.
