I know this is a Steve Earle forum but has anyone else bought Allison Moorer’s new CD? I love it, it’s mostly cover tunes but the title track is one of hers called Mockingbird and she does a beautiful version of an old Jessi Colter song called I’m Looking For Blue Eyes. She definitely has a new fan in me.

Breaks my heart to say it, but I have a couple of Alison discs and I just can't get into them. I think the record company tried to make her too commercial or something. Her voice is beautiful, but I'd love to hear her dig in to some really well written alt. country stuff. Maybe this new one will do it for me, but I'll have to give it a listen online before I buy it.

Hi, I did go buy the Mockingbird CD after hearing her sing at Pantages Theatre in Minneapolis in March.  I also had listened to some other songs on line.  She has a voice with a lot of strength that really really comes across in a live performance.  I really do like Mockingbird and felt she honored the originals very very well yet put her own personality into them.  My favorite songs were the title track and Looking for Blue Eyes.  Her live performance, again, was marvelous especially of these 2 tracks.

Just back from a record store freebie concert (Cactus Records in Houston) that I must admit I attended mostly because I was inspired by Allison Moorer's (really vice-versa) set with hubby Steve Earle at ACL2007.  I almost missed Steve's show but by a sheer luck it was convenient and uncrowded and I remembered how much I loved his duet with Siobhan Kennedy ('Poison Lovers') and subsequently with Iris DeMent ('Still in Love w/ You') and decided to see his show.

Don't get me wrong. Steve Earle was the artist, whose work I had known and appreciated, that attracted me, and his opening number, a song about Townes Van Zandt (a total personal fave), kept me engaged; but I must say when Allison did harmonies on 'Down Here Below', that was a very emotional moment for me.

Nearly ten years to the day (April 25,1998), I was released to freedom after being kidnapped for just over one month during a birding (birdwatching) trip in Colombia (thank you FARC, ironically). My friend, Tom Fiore, who escaped nearly 20 days earlier, was one of the Central Park Regulars mentioned in a book ('Red-tails in Love') that would eventually go paperback and plus several printings; our detention made hime miss the release date of that book, but that book would launch Pale Male into history. When I heard Steve's song relate the story of Pale Male, it became rather personal for me and Allison's beautiful harmony sealed the deal.

OK, so Steve wrote the song, but he's a big hairy man. I love Steve anyway, and I thank him for sticking up for immigrants (especially Mexicans). I don't agree with all of his politics but I personally thank him for being political (viva! free speech). I am against the Iraq War (a popular stand among Musicians) and against Bush (another popular stand by default) but I worry that we'll become complacent with a Dem in office. I just bought tickets to Steve & Allison's Houston show. I will enjoy the show, and Steve & Allison will keep ragin' against the machine.

hello friend, just had to say hello, i was born and raised in Texas, outside Austin, and have loved Steve's work since we were both much younger!  i guess we are both, Steve and I, the Older Generation, i think i could be the mama to most of the folks on this board...I wanted to say welcome to the board and keep coming back...or as Steve would say about NA (and i am a member of that grand group) "keep coming back, it works....."

i saw Steve and Allison here in Minneapolis, where I've been exiled to since 1987, on March 9 and it was an incredible experience for me.  I met him briefly after the show, he still does it for me, so I reckon you can have Allison!  My husband greatly appreciated her, too!

keep going in, it's hard sometimes....the last 6 months have been a controlled hell for me in a lot of respects, staying clean is a lot harder than gettin' clean, Walon said that on "The Wire" and i agree!

BTW my aunt spent about a month in Minneapolis with her ex-lover. But it will be some 15 years ago. (And my mum threw away her potcards when tidying up )

well, i wish i'd only spent a month in Minneapolis!  no...some good things have come from being here, saw my first Steve Earle show here, had three beautiful children, have spent 20 of our 23 yrs together here with my husband, got into rehab (three times....blush), have made a couple of good friends, survived 20 winters and, for a Texas girl, that's saying a heck of a lot...

I am a big fan of many of the female songwriters on Mochingbird so I bought the CD and really enjoy it and play it a lot.  I think AM has a beautiful voice and I really enjoyed the selection of songs on the CD.  My favorite tracks are Dancing Barefoot, I  Want A Little Sugar In My Bowl and Orphan Train.

I only checked Alison on YouTube and it really sounds a lot like the mainstream pop-country whih we don't like. But don't remember which songs I checked.

Otherwise, she is a very likeable woman  

Viky- I absolutely hate mainstream country too but most of the stuff on this record is not like that. There are a few blues numbers that are very nice in my opinion.

great!  i love all of the C. Brothers movies!!!  i have "Fargo" memorized, my 19 yr old son and i are always passing lines back and forth...i love the movies and confuse a lot of the "normal" people around me when i reel off lines from them!!

By the way if you haven’t seen No Country for Old Men it’s a good one. Another Coen classic, I’m a big fan too.

I don't know if this is just my twisted 16 yeard old mind, but doesn't it seem like she's really young for him? They have a 17 year age difference. I love them both! Don't get me wrong, they are a beautiful couple. It just seems like she's so young and beautiful. They both got very lucky when they found each other. I hope this marriage goes really good for them!!
