The concert at the Gertrude Castellow Ford Center for the Performing Arts at the Ole Miss Campus was especially good for the Allison Moorer opening Wednesday night. It was so nice to hear her powerful but sweet voice resonate through this state of the art venue. The respectful and SOBER crowd of about 500 good fans hung on every word. It would have been nicer, however, had the attendance been closer to capacity.
I think that this is the first time that Ginny and I have ever had front row seats at a concert and it was even more thrilling that it was a Steve Earle concert. I have to admit a little anxiety because I knew Steve would be brave enough to talk a little politics and sing a few songs about peace and justice and it is unusual to speak out about these issues in Mississippi as well as my home State of Alabama without having a few dedicated neocons to heckle the performer but this crowd was respectful and even supportive. And, like Steve said, if there were and Republicans in the crowd, they did not want to be known by their other neocon friends as someone who would come to a Steve Earle concert, so perhaps they just kept their mouths shut. It’s amazing to me that there are still any Republicans left after what we’ve been through the last 7 years. You would think that if you are a believer in the teachings of Jesus Christ as “The Bible Belt” claims to be, Alabama & Mississippi would be the first to oppose our participation this immoral civil war that has been always going on in Iraq. Anyway, thanks again to Steve for speaking out in such a musically entertaining way! Please come back soon!
We need you!
