Re: The "I want to whine about the DJ" thread
Sounds Great. But I'm getting really jealous now - everyone's getting to see him but me. Alright, that's enough self pity, maybe he'll get here in the spring. (Our spring that is).

Re: The "I want to whine about the DJ" thread
No, you are not the only one to miss him live this time around. I missed him when he came to Chicago due to my work schedule. Therefore, I cannot comment on the live show with the DJ, but I do love WSS as much as I love all the rest of his CDs. As for his music, I love the numbers that rock and I love the ballads too. I even like the stuff that leans toward country and I never, ever thought I would say that. The thing I most appreciate about Steve Earle is that he continues to surprise me with every new CD. I pick my Steve Earle depending on my mood that day and his stuff can pretty much cover it all. It's the same with Van Morrison for me. Every CD has it's own sound. Some are jazzy, some are folk and some are rock. But, I love them all.

absolutely love Steve's music but won't be going to see him live again if he continues on this path. Sack the DJ! Do that please, leave the space for a real Steve Earle fan......I saw him last week in Charlotte, the best freakin' Steve Earle show I've ever seen in about 40 shows....Allison is "shifty"? get real. The only song I had a problem with was Transcendental Blues I didn't care for the 12 string too much but TB was merely very good, the DJ worked great and Steve locked in with him effortlessly......Hip

Re: The "I want to whine about the DJ" thread
Viky:Hey, I never had a chance to see Steve here either. :-(
You could try and get a cheap flight over to UK in June. The show at Leicester De Montfort looks like he's part of a pretty good line up. It's a great little festival there, completely different to the usual megafestivals. I was lucky enough to see the Concert for a Landmine Free World there in 2003 with Steve, Emmylou, Joan Baez, Billy Bragg and Chrissie Hind. Even took the kids. My daughter loved it, but my 2 week old boy slept through the whole thing - I didn't think it was that boring.

Re: The "I want to whine about the DJ" thread
I waited about 20 years before I finally got to see Steve in MInneapolis in March. I enjoyed the entire show and the point is that all of Steve's songs are true folk songs. They can be played acoustically or with a full Dukes lineup or accompanied by the DJ and they are still great songs. You can't say that about most music being produced today. Sure, it would be great to see him do a tour w/the Dukes again too. I think they are terrific together, absolutely, and the videos I have seen of him with the Dukes are stupendous. But every record he does is different and has its own personality, if you will. He explores new ground every time. That's why we listen to him. Celebrate the differences and appreciate the creativity folks....otherwise we could be doomed to listen to what the music industry suits want to peddle us, all that commercial fluffy ear candy music that's out there...no thanks!

Re: The "I want to whine about the DJ" thread
Hey, jasoncubarhodes is right about the You Belong to Me. Funny, it's the only song on Copperhead Road I use to skip and never liked, so I completely forgot how it sounds. (And still don't like it :-P Finally know why )
I've been listening to Copperhead Road on my way to Prague today. Custer is the best! And Even When I'm Blue, Waitin' On You, Once You Love and Nothing But a Child. + the title song of course and most of others. ;-)

I'm just about to go over to the 'introduce yourself' thread but first I thought I'd comment on this 'cos opinions are just like arseholes.... we've all got one. I've had the pleasure of seein' Steve an' The Dukes on the El Corazon tour, an' I've seen him twice already on this tour: once here in Basingstoke UK an' also at The Roundhouse in London. I would love to see him do a tour with The Dukes again, but right now he's doin' as he feels befits his music now. I thought he was good in Basingstoke, but we were all seated. At The Roundhouse we were standin'. What a great gig that was (IMHO). Steve was great, absolutely great. Alison was superb, an' Neil done exactly what was required of him an' honestly, I love the new album with it's beats an' loops. Sack the DJ ?.... It's only an opinion.... an' seriously, not a valid one at that. CHEERS !!
Damn pleased with my lot.
