    Least Favourite Tune

So we like to say what our favourite Steve songs are but how about a round up of the top 3 least favourite Steve songs? (This could create a few arguments!!)

    Here's mine:

    1. The Other Side of Town
    2. Pilgrim
    3. Sparkle and Shine

Except for Sparkle and Shine, the above mentioned are somewhere at the bottom of my "chart" too.

I'd say Conspiracy Theory, Condi Condi and You Belong to Me. But as well as I don't have any "top three", I don't have any "bottom three" either.

I don't know about 3 least favourite tracks, but my least favourite is definitely 'The Boy Who Never Cried'.

Sweet Little '66 feels rather pointless to be honest. Apart from that particular song, I can't come up with anything.

Anything off Exit 0, sorry but that album does nothing for me.

Wow, thats amazing. Thats why i like this kind of question as it reveals more into our taste, yet we all love Steve Earle. I love Exit 0 and actually prefer it to Guitar Town!

As far as production goes, I totally agree with Walshie. It has to be the most 'radio-friendly' sounding recording in Earle's entire catalogue. But the songs are brilliant (well, most of 'em).

    Re: Least Favourite Tune

Wow, it is kinda funny how all of our tastes differ. I absolutly love Exit 0. It's my favorite Steve album. The Rain Came Down...something about that song just does it for me.

As for my least favorite....it's a tough question....but I'd probably have to say Christmas In Washington. I love the words, but the music or the tune or something just doesn't do it for me. West Nashville Boogy(sp?) is the other one that doesn't really do it for me. I completely understand what he's saying, but something about it....

    Have mercy on me,
    I'm a sinner Lord can't you see,
    Have mercy on me.

Christmas in Washington and West Nashville Boogie - Agreed, not my favourites either.

And The Rain Came Down is one of my most favourites.

    Re: Least Favourite Tune

I am surprised to see the various replies to "least favorite song"..... I, too, totally love Exit O, although not as much as I love his later music. And as the ultimate Steve Earle fan, I worship every single note of every single song on every single album. He could sing Celine Dion songs and I would love it. Therefore, I do not have a least favorite song. *jenny*

    Re: Least Favourite Tune

There's a great version of The other side of town on a bootleg called Live in Hamburg 1997 with Buddy Miller on lead guitar and harmonies, it's a bit rough sound wise but worth a listen.

I'm not fussed about The Hard Way and Shut up and Die like an aviator with the exception of Billy Austin and the Guitar town songs. Copper Head Road the album is not up there wiyh the greats for me either.

    Re: Least Favourite Tune

I always skip "Red Is The Color", and the instrumentals on the Mountain CD.  Other than that, I love them all.  I also have to say that Exit 0 is one of my favorite albums.  Have you all read the story of how it came to be named Exit 0?  It involved a steak flipping into a record executives lap.Big Smile

Of course, Red is the Color, I shouldn't have forgotten this one. I always skip it too!
